blackboardmenu.jpg

One of our favorite things to do is filling out this small blackboard in our kitchen with our daily menu.

A gift from my mother-in-law, we had the board painted the same color as our walls- but now that we’ve seen Not Just Blackboard we want to start a collection.

More deliciousness a-coming

So we’re back. Got married. Moved house. Learned the joys of smoked food. We’ve been keeping an offline (read: written by hand in a notebook!) kitchen journal, so I’ll be sharing entries from that with you soon.

Oh, and since we lost the domain name, this is no longer DailyChef: it’s louienep/food.

The craziness will end soon

Moving this site to a new server was not as easy as I expected. There were some brief flirtations with TextPattern and WordPress. Now I’m back using Moveable Type- which has everything I need and, perhaps more importantly, is the one tool I’ve already learned to use- I can breathe a sigh of relief.

OXO Good Grips Mini Salad and Herb Spinner

When, like me, you’re cooking for two most of the time, it can be difficult to portion your cooking so you aren’t left with a whole month’s worth of leftovers.

We love the mini salad and herb spinner from OXO because not only is it perfect for spinning a salad for two, its non-slip, and extremely easy to use.

Perfect Pats of Butter

Butter Slicer

I got this as a gift from a friend familiar with my tastes for fun kitchen tools. Who knew I would become so dependent on this?

It slices perfect pats of butter (butter must be chilled), and is just one of those tools that become necessary the more you use it.

How to use it:

Simply place Butter Cutter over a stick of chilled butter and press down. Voila! Perfect pats of butter.
